The Rattlers lost their first game to East Central High School in San Antonio.

The Hornets recovered three San Marcos fumbles to take an early 13-0 lead. Running back Jauwan Hall crossed the plane twice with a 50 yard run and a 15 yard run. San Marcos was able to answer back with a fumble recovery of their own that led to a Rattler touchdown.

Starting quarterback Tyler Moreno punched into the end zone with a rushing touchdown, bringing the score to 13-7. East Central responded with a field goal extending the lead to 16-7. Before the half, Moreno found Jordan Tapia in the corner of the end zone cutting the lead to 16-14.

In the second half, Hall took over. The Rattler defense had no answer for the senior running back who crossed the plane for a third time in the third quarter.

East Central tacked on 24 points the second half with three rushing touchdowns and a field goal.

The Rattler’s could not get anything going on offense in the second half. Cavion Garner, star senior running back, left the game early in the first quarter and did not return for the rest of the game.

San Marcos was able to put together nice drives, but could only get in the end zone once. Without Garner, the offense lacked their red zone threat.

The Rattlers will be back in action Friday, September 2 at home against Canyon High School.
