The nightlife at The Square has a very healthy party atmosphere. With currently 71 establishments in San Marcos serving alcohol, it is not hard to turn-up in San Marcos. The Marc is a bar on The Square which has lots of dancing and drinks accompanied by live music. College freshman love to come here because The Marc is an eighteen and up bar. Nephews has a dance floor like The Marc, however Nephews has an older college crowd.

For those desiring to drink a beer in peace, then you seriously need to consider going to Taproom. With a relaxed atmosphere, and food which is out of this world, Taproom is a place to kick back and relax. Try the guacamole-queso burger; it is just flat out delicious.
The west side of The Square contains the LBJ Museum, and Cardinal Frame & Art. The LBJ Museum has lots of pictures and mementos of President Lyndon B. Johnson, who actually lived in San Marcos during his college years. Artists would like to go to Cardinal Frame & Art to pick out a beautiful frame. The Square is a great place to learn about the culture and history of those who live and have lived in San Marcos.
The food at The Square is just flat out delicious. The locals in San Marcos never have to leave town to find fine cuisine of their liking. Root Cellar Cafe & Brewery is a restaurant on The Square with an all-day American menu. Root Cellar is located just off The Square on N LBJ Drive. Customers walk down steps to the front door of the cellar to enter into the homey atmosphere the establishment maintains. Root Cellar is a romantic place for couples to go on a date.
Another café located on the Square is literally named Cafe On the Square. Like Root Cellar, Cafe on the Square has an all day menu serving American eats. Locals are very faithful to Cafe on the Square because it is one of the oldest and most authentic San Marcos cuisine in town.
