The Bobcat football team got back on track tonight with a win against the University of Incarnate Word Cardinals with a final score of 48-17.

The Bobcat offense found new life after going four weeks without scoring a touchdown, dating back to their triple overtime win against Ohio on September 3. Tyler Jones stole the show, throwing for a Texas State record 475 yards and five touchdowns while completing 31/40 passes with no turnovers.

Jones had a lot of help from the pass catchers on this team. Gabe Schrade ended up with 61 yards and found the end zone for the first and second time in his career. Freshman Thurman Morbley had his breakout game of the season, finishing with 133 yards and a touchdown. Tyler Siudzinski also found his way to the end zone, his first touchdown of the season.

Defensively, the Bobcats played far better than any game this year so far. After giving up a 47-yard touchdown run by the Cardinals’ Broderick Reeves in the first quarter, the defense held for the rest of the game, surrendering only 17 total points. Javante O’Roy recorded the first interception of the year for the defense on the Cardinals’ first offensive snap of the second half. O’Roy continued causing problems for the Cardinals with multiple third down tackles to force them to punt. Late in the fourth quarter, Jordan Eastling managed to block and recover a kick, rounding out a smothering defensive performance.

The Bobcats begin Sun Belt conference play next Saturday at 2:30 p.m. in Atlanta with a game against the Georgia State Panthers.
