Trump Takes Lead in 2016 Election

The second round of polls have closed, and so far, Republican Candidate Donald Trump has won 129 electoral votes.

In the first round, Trump won the race in Kentucky with 65 percent of the popular vote, Indiana with 64 percent of the popular vote and West Virginia with 60 percent. This should not come as a surprise, since these states historically vote Republican.

square-election-01Trump has won Alabama, Kansas, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, West Virginia and Wyoming.

With 38 electoral votes, Texas was a great win for Trump.

In a tight race, Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton has won Vermont with 51 percent of the popular vote. Clinton has also taken the lead in New Hampshire and has won Delaware, District of Columbia, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Rhode Island. Clinton has won 97 of the electoral votes.

Trump has taken the lead in the following swing states: Florida, North Carolina, Virginia and Ohio.

Clinton has taken the lead in the following swing states: Pennsylvania and New Hampshire.

More polls will be closing at 8:30 p.m. and KTSW will continue to update.
