Artist Pass Along: Blu Moon

Blu Moon is a duo from San Marcos. Kendra Sells and Beau Carnes are two mass communications majors at Texas State with an immense passion for music. Kendra began her path in music while in middle school playing percussion for the the school’s band program. Beau started similarly, playing clarinet in his middle school band. Both of them would go on to continue playing in their high school band programs and forming independent bands with friends that they went to school with.

Upon arriving at Texas State, Kendra began seeking ways to perform songs she had been writing when she auditioned to perform at the talent show during homecoming week. She would go on to continue performing at Triple Crown on a regular basis. Beau who had begun working with Ableton while in high school brought his beat making skills to college DJing at local house parties around town. He would go on to join Hip-Hop Congress to showcase the beats he had been producing. He quickly learned that while he enjoyed listening to rap he was not too into the process of making rap beats. The problem he said was too many rappers were looking for specific types of beats rather than the two of them coming together to collaborate. At the end of Kendra’s freshman year, after performing at an open mic night at George’s, she was approached by Beau who knew that the two of them needed to work together.

The two of them would go on to begin working together whenever the opportunity would arise. The creative chemistry was impeccable each time the two would come together they would be able to put a whole song together. The writing process between them is a real ebb and flow with either one of them initiating an idea and the other building off of it. The two have released their first EP titled Natural that consists of seven songs Beau and Kendra have been working on and performing around town over the past few months. Natural has a very unique style that grips you from start to finish with each song delivering a mellow vibe that one can’t help but want to dance too. Kendra’s smooth and sultry vocals accompanied by Beau’s wide range skill of sound production are an immaculate combination.

Going into 2017 the duo have many goals ahead of them hoping to release another EP in the near future, expand the venues they hope to play in and expanding their social media presence to be able to get their music out to more people.
