She Shreds Magazine came out this SXSW and graced the public with an amazing female-centric Showcase filled with not only music, but inspiration, empowerment, and a beautiful atmosphere. As we were out and about enjoying the cloudy skies, pretty outfits, and faint smells of BBQ, we decided to ask the public: what’s your take on the She Shreds Showcase?
“She Shreds magazine is the world’s only print publication dedicated to women guitarists and bassists. We strive to change the way women guitarists and bassists are depicted and presented in the music industry and popular culture by creating a platform where people can listen, see and experience what it means to be a woman who shreds. Our goal is to transcend boundaries like gender and genre—supporting radicalism, respect and revolution.”
What are you wearing today?
A: Let’s see, I have some ripped jeans on, a black velvet western belt, and uh, a nice denim tank top.
What’s your take on the She Shreds Showcase?
A: She Shreds is definitely awesome! We got here like an hour and a half ago, we love it. We definitely love the feminine vibe with all the female lead bands. We just saw Madam Gandi at Cheer Up Charlie’s and walked over here to enjoy the atmosphere. The people are great, you bring your own drinks, it’s just awesome.
What are we wearing today?
K: I’m rockin’ an Express baseball tee crop top, and some vintage jeans with a “resist” patch my friend made. I’m also covered in straight up, SXSW, organic mud from head to toe.
V: I’m just wearing my boyfriend’s sweater because I’m cold, and a skirt from Forever 21.
K: Girl, that’s a straight up state-of-the-art 80s classic corduroy, with a complimentary button-up front on the bottom, some beautiful leather fringe boots, and a gorgeous smile.
What’s your take on the She Shreds Showcase?
K: I think there should be more showcases like this. There should be more female-centric everything! All the way around to sport, music, & fashion. That doesn’t mean it can’t be all inclusive, that just means someone has to give it up somewhere. You know what I’m sayin’? And if this is where it all begins, I’m happy to be here.
V: I completely agree with her, I love seeing all these females doing what they love to do. Just straight up dominating the scene. Its pretty amazing.
K: Does it empower you? Does it inspire you?
V: Totally! I’m gonna go home and make some artwork or music. I’m 100% inspired.
What are you wearing today?
C: I’m wearing a shirt from a band named The Paranoyds. They’re a band from Los Angeles, all girls, they rock.
What’s your take on the She Shreds Showcase?
C: She Shreds is a great magazine. I pick up an issue every chance I can! Diet Cig was definitely the highlight of today, at least for me. We got to see mothers too, they really empower women. The future is female, so She Sheds is doing the lord’s work here, man.
What are we wearing today?
C: I’m wearing a broken backpack and an Elvira shirt, represent!
N: I’m wearing H&M and American Apparel, simple and sweet.
What’s your take on the She Shreds Showcase?
C: It’s so empowering, bottom line, and we’re happy to represent girl power here.
N: I just think that we need more shows like this. It’s so amazing. Fabi Reyna is running the show and she is such an inspiration. I admire that she put in blood, sweat and tears for this project to come to life.
What are you wearing today?
J: I’m wearing a shirt that I bought in columbia. Along with some black pants and red nikes!
What’s your take on the She Shreds Showcase?
J: I like that I’m finally represent here. I mean, look at all these female bands. I was just at Cheer Up’s and heard about this show along the way. It’s so open and free, you can bring whatever you want, leave, stay. Its overall great vibes.
