As college students, eating healthy may come as a challenge. We’re constantly being tempted to buy cheap foods like Ramen Noodles, or fast food that save our wallet from heartache and give us a quick, delicious meal (sometimes). Even on campus we can easily find Chick-Fil-A or some Taco Bell right down the road.

Fortunately, I have found a way to avoid these temptations and also have a quick and delicious meal that doesn’t hurt my wallet! Over the break I invested in a 2.5 liter air fryer and a George Foreman Grill. Now, a lot of people have never heard of an air fryer, or don’t really know what it is. It’s pretty self explanatory. It’s a “fryer”, that uses very little to no oil to fry, grill, roast or bake things! It does these things by circulating hot air around the food to cook it. All you do is put whatever you want to make in this little basket, and place it in a small oven-like shaped thing. There are different settings on them which makes it very simple to use. For example, if you want to fry some chicken, you put it in the fryer and click on the chicken symbol. It’ll give you the recommended heat setting as well as how long you should fry it for, and voila! You have some delicious and healthy fried chicken. You can make things from fries, all the way to baking cupcakes! There’s usually a small recipe booklet that comes with your air fryer, but if not there are some wonderful recipes online!
For those who don’t have the budget for an air fryer, I would recommend getting the George Foreman grill. It’s significantly cheaper and smaller, and you can still get some really great recipes out of it. Not only is it a great price, but for those that aren’t super great at cooking (like me) it is simple to use and comes with an awesome instruction guide with recommendations on how long to cook certain meats and other things. Something I love about this grill is that it eliminates all the grease you would get from a normal grill, and takes out all the fat making it a healthy alternative. I have loved using this grill to make grilled chicken and have even used it to make a grilled cheese sandwich!

I can’t think of anything that would be worth getting up and doing without draining me to the point where I wish I was right back where I started. I feel nothing, I am numb,” – Anonymous.
