Since Icy Rolls’ opening this summer you may have heard of it or seen it but never actually tried it. I haven’t been there quite as often as I’d like, however, the few times I have been, it’s been a wonderful and interesting experience. Icy Rolls is located at 202 University Drive Suite C, in San Marcos, Texas. They are located within walking distance of the university, so those that have always been curious about it can stop by in between their classes. On a not so busy day, you can also find parking near the shop, because let’s face it, we all know how parking spots can be difficult in this city. Icy Rolls’ hours are from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 12 p.m. to 11 p.m Friday and Saturday. Here’s my experience at Icy Rolls.
The Ice Cream
When I first got to Icy Rolls I wasn’t sure what to order since they had a wide range of ice cream flavors I’ve never heard of, nor tried. Their flavors included: Thai Tea, Matcha Madness, Strawberry Cheesecake, Reese’s Pieces, Avocado Alamo, Cookie Butter, Lone Star (vanilla), Nutella Ella Ella, Breakfast Cereal, Wildin’ Berry, Cookie Monster and the Rise and Grind (espresso). The previous time I had gone to Icy Rolls when they first opened up I tried Wildin’ Berry, which included actual strawberries, blueberries, or blackberries with a graham cracker and condensed milk. I’m a fan of fruit, so that seemed like the safe choice for me to try. Just recently, I was craving ice cream, so I decided to head to Icy Rolls. This time I decided to take a step out of my comfort zone and try the Avocado Alamo. Yes, it does come with actual avocado if you were wondering! The ingredients for this ice cream just included avocado and condensed milk. It was actually pretty good and was very smooth ice cream, which paired well with the coconut flakes and almonds I added to it.
The Experience
Icy Rolls charges $6 or $6.50, not including taxes, depending on what kind of ice cream you want, which is quite pricey for ice cream itself. However, if you take into consideration the amount of ice cream you get and the unlimited toppings and any choice of what drizzle you want for free, it makes the price a reasonable one. Aside from the prices being on the bit high side for ice cream, it is a great experience to have with friends or family. You get to watch your ice cream being made and once it’s done the way the ice cream is rolled is visually pleasing. You also get to choose if you would like your ice cream in a cup, taco or a bun. There is also enough space in the building to enjoy your ice cream with friends or by yourself.
Some may say they don’t want to stray away from Rhea’s Ice Cream shop, which has been here for years and a favorite to many in this city, however I think both are equally great and unique in their own ways. So, if you’d like to create your own experience and try any wild flavors with or without friends my advice to you is enjoy yourself and the ice cream!
