This past Tuesday the Texas State Men’s Basketball team defeated Hardin Simmons University in a defensive 97-52 blowout in the newly renovated Strahan Coliseum. With standout performances from senior Alex Peacock and junior Eric Terry, the Bobcats had a defensively prominent game as the Cowboys were held to just 26 percent shooting. Leading the whole game, the Bobcats seal their second win in the season after a tightly contested game against Air Force the previous Friday. The Bobcats Men’s Basketball team look to take on Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday in their first stretch of road games of the season.

Starting off the game, Terry put on an amazing display of post moves to help the Bobcats take an early lead against the Cowboys within the first period. Tre Nottingham showed out making four great assists in the first half ultimately putting the Bobcats into position for some easy buckets against a defense that was lacking size. Hardin Simmons came out of the gate shooting 5-27, 18.5 percent in the first half and only managed to put up 19 points. The wall that Texas State put up on defense was too high for the Cowboys to climb. Another key contributor in the first half was the new Sophomore Quentin Scott; coming out in the first 3-4 and six rebounds within only eight minutes, Scott showed exactly how much depth the Bobcats have on their bench. Terry, the tallest man on the court at 6’8, produced fifteen points and five rebounds leading the Bobcats to a 46-19 lead at the half.

Going into the second period with a 27-point lead, the Bobcats looked to park the bus and start the season off right. Letting some of the new players get some floor minutes, Head Coach Danny Kaspar put in forward Alonzo Sule who accumulated 10 points and three rebounds in just 10 minutes. Sophomore Shelby Adams also came away with a big night, with 12 points, four rebounds and a steal; he helped establish a steady momentum for the offense to build on. Peacock acquired seven rebounds and six points in the second half that made him the rebound leader with 12 on the night. The tight defense early on and consistency from the offense throughout the game lead to the second victory on the season for the Bobcats.

Upcoming they face a 2-1 Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. The Bulldogs are averaging 85 points in the past three games and have been known to have a loud and vicious crowd at home. Averaging six blocks and six assists a game, this defensive team just went on to lose against the power-5 University Colorado in Boulder, Colorado and are looking to compete hard against the Bobcats on Saturday the 17th.
