Which Song Best Reflects Your Sign?

You’ve probably scrolled through your Twitter feed and seen astrology tweets similar to the one below. Because astrology has been around for centuries, it’s no surprise that horoscopes and birth charts have taken social media culture by storm. For those that don’t believe in astrology or find the trend absurd, you’re probably wondering what makes it interesting in the first place.

In short, astrology is the study of the movements and positions of celestial bodies and their supposed influence on human affairs and the world around us. For many, there’s a sense of comfort and assurance that comes with reading a horoscope dedicated to their sign. Others simply find it entertaining to delve into and poke fun at the habits and qualities of different signs and use it as a way to connect with others.

Here is a list of songs that I believe reflect each sign based on their best qualities so get ready to add these to your playlist if you haven’t already!

Aries

Dates: March 21-April 19
Song: “Ultralight Beam (triple j Like A Version)”
Artist: Cub Sport
Album: Ultralight Beam (triple j Like A Version)

The best way to describe an Aries is by their passion. Whether this emotion extends to their career, partner or personal interests, these trailblazers know how to add a fresh perspective to different aspects of life. Aries are great at setting goals and sticking to them until they meet their desired outcome. As the first sign of the zodiac, an Aries will stop at nothing to finish what they started with grace and determination.

Taurus

Dates: April 20-May 20
Song: “Let It Happen”
Artist: Tame Impala
Album: Currents

Taurus is represented by the bull, a magnificent creature with a spirit to match. A Taurus enjoys the finer things in life and finds any way to pamper themselves (self-care is key, after all). This sign understands the value in hard work as well, and their ambition keeps them from straying too far from their goals. Tame Impala’s Let It Happen is a reflection of this drive a Taurus possesses. A Taurus will keep on thriving no matter what life may throw at them.

Gemini

Dates: May 21-June 20
Song: “The Good Side”
Artist: Troye Sivan
Album: Bloom

Geminis are widely misconstrued, yet they possess some of the best qualities a person can have: social confidence, curiosity and individuality. An incredibly talkative sign, Geminis can carry a conversation like no other. This sign loves interacting with others and sharing new ideas. Most notably, people born under Gemini understand humility and know how to handle life’s biggest challenges with ease.

Cancer

Dates: June 21-July 22
Song: “I’ll Stick by You”
Artist: Marlin’s Dreaming
Album: I’ll Stick by You

Despite their seemingly distant nature, Cancers can be some of the most genuine and kindest people you meet. While it may take a bit of work to uncover their true personality, their caring and attentive nature is worth knowing. Cancers are known for their incredible devotion to those they admire, making this indie track a perfect representation of the sign’s unwavering commitment.

Leo

Dates: July 23-August 22
Song: “I Dare You”
Artist: The xx
Album: I See You

Leos are symbolized by the lion, the “king of the jungle.” Their courage and optimism sets them apart from the other signs as well as their great love and dedication to others. Leos are also natural-born leaders who lead with confidence and pride in everything they do.

Virgo

Dates: August 23-September 22
Song: “9″
Artist: Willow, SZA
Album: 3

Virgos are best known for their willingness to lend a helping hand. As an Earth sign, Virgos are intellectual, resourceful and enjoy finding solutions to everyday problems. They are the go-getters of the zodiac and are adept at planning things such as projects, schedules, vacations and more. What would we do without Virgos and their canny abilities?

Libra

Dates: September 23-October 22
Song: “Soledad y el Mar (feat. Los Macorinos)”
Artist: Natalia Lafourcade
Album: Musas (Un Homenaje al Folclore Latinoamericano en Manos de Los Macorinos, Vol. 1)

Libras are referred to as “the aesthetes of the zodiac.” After all, this sign is ruled by Venus. Libras have a good eye for high art and beautiful environments. I picked Soledad y el Mar as the Libras’ song because not only is it a soothing and romantic tune, but Natalia Lafourcade’s enchanting vocals best represent the kind of art and beauty that a Libra spends their whole life seeking.

Scorpio

Dates: October 23-November 21
Song: “ALieNNatioN”
Artist: The Voidz
Album: Virtue

Secretive. Lover of all things occult. Mysterious. These are just a few ways to describe Scorpios, who are as intense as they are reserved. Scorpios are the type of people who know what they want and are always ahead of the game. Despite being misunderstood as a sign, I think we can all appreciate the strength and vision that drives a Scorpio.

Sagittarius

Dates: November 22-December 21
Song: “Me and Michael”
Artist: MGMT
Album: Little Dark Age

I might be a little biased when I say this, but some of the best people I’ve met are Sagittarians. MGMT’s Me and Michael is a great song to represent those who are a great ball of light and friend to all. The song’s first line, “Not everyone can be like me and Michael,” is especially true since Sagittarius’ cheerful and adventure-seeking persona is unlike any other sign. Do yourself a favor and turn up this fun and catchy tune and dance the day away with a Sagittarius!

Capricorn

Dates: December 22-January 19
Song: “Dreams”
Artist: Japanese Breakfast
Album: Spotify Singles

Capricorns are a hard-working and driven bunch, which is why I chose Dreams by Japanese Breakfast as the sign’s song. Japanese Breakfast’s take on the cool and classic song features lines like, “I want more, impossible to ignore/Impossible to ignore,” and “They’ll come true, impossible not to do.” Whether a Capricorn feels this way about a potential lover or their personal goals, it is clear that their willingness to power through anything will lead them to their wildest dreams. Their energy and ability to excel in any given task is inspiring to everyone they come across.

Aquarius

Dates: January 20-February 18
Song: “It All Feels Right”
Artist: Washed Out
Album: Paracosm

As an Aquarius, I have to agree with the different horoscope sites that label Aquarians as shy and quiet. However, I’ve met other Aquarians who are the complete opposite and are outgoing and energetic. Aquarians take a lot of pride in their personal freedom and artistic views of the world. Despite how aloof Aquarians may seem, we’re actually a cool group of people to have around. So find yourself a new Aquarius friend to discover new music with and watch artsy movies together (because that’s always a good time, right?)

Pisces

Dates: February 19-March 20
Song: “Walking On A Dream”
Artist: Empire of the Sun
Album: Walking On A Dream

Last, but certainly not least, we have Pisces. Known for their compassion, Pisces are an understanding and gentle sign. Their quiet yet vibrant nature is infectious, and their empathetic nature is a trait that many should look to model after. For this sign, I have chosen Walking On A Dream by Empire of the Sun given Pisces’ vivid imagination and desire to explore farther than what meets the eye.
