South Alabama Puts on a Shooting Clinic Against Texas State

This game was lost in the second half for the Bobcats as they could not stop what was a tremendous shooting night from the Jaguars. It was a 35-31 lead for the Jaguars at the end of the first half, which then grew into a 22 point lead for South Alabama in the second half.

South Alabama shot 62.8 percent from the field and 58.8 percent from three-point territory for the game. Four out of their five starters for the Jaguars were in double figures. South Alabama forward, Josh Ajayi, scored 20 points for the game and senior guard, Rodrick Sikes, scored 15 of his 18 points in the second half to help pull off the 77-63 win.

Eric Terry and Nijal Pearson were in foul trouble in the first half, which threw the Bobcats out of rhythm. The ‘Cats could not keep up with the scorching Jaguars in the second period as Pearson struggled in this game by only scoring one point that came from the free throw line.

However, it was not just Pearson who was struggling. The whole team, while South Alabama went on a 12-0 run in the second period, did not score in the opening five minutes until Tre’ Nottingham made both of free throws to make it a 49-33 Jaguar lead.

In Sun Belt Conference standings, Texas State (12-5) is now tied with Georgia State (12-5) and Georgia Southern (12-5) for first place in the Sun Belt Conference. The Bobcats will be going on the road to face UTA (11-6), who is only one game back from first place. This game will have important implications for seeding in the Sun Belt Tournament.
