Apart from listening to KTSW, I get most of my music from my friends or, surprisingly, the shows I stream on various services. I’ve even found some of my favorite bands from binging Netflix late at night, pausing every once in a while to Shazam the track playing in the background.
Here, I’ve compiled a few of my favorite songs from the shows I have watched.
Unfortunately, “Gypsy” got canceled after just one season, but it is still definitely a show worth checking out. The cinematography is absolutely beautiful and the music matches it perfectly. The eerie tracks featured draw you into the mind of the main character, which is a messed-up place to say the least.
- “This Is Love” – PJ Harvey
I absolutely love PJ Harvey, her music is so raw and rough; needless to say I was excited when I heard her voice coming through my computer speakers.
- “Francine” – Esmé Patterson
- “Hey Joe” – Charlotte Gainsbourg
- “Girl” – The Internet, KAYTRANADA
This was the first time I was exposed to The Internet and I loved the song but didn’t listen to any more of their music until I found my way back to them after listening to “Come Over.”
- “Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood” – Cyndi Lauper
While I prefer the Nina Simone version of this song, I have to admit that Lauper’s rendition makes this particular scene of the show seem even more devious.
I’ve only seen the first season of “Sinner” (apparently the second one isn’t nearly as great), and the music is ridiculously good. Cigarettes After Sex is one of my favorite bands of all time; this won’t be the last song you see of theirs on this list. The two songs by Big Black Delta are great too, but at first it’s hard to like them. “Huggin & Kissin” is definitely my favorite of the two.
- “Huggin & Kissin” – Big Black Delta
- “Nothing’s Gonna Hurt You Baby” – Cigarettes After Sex
- “Capsize” – Big Black Delta
You is a mind boggling show that keeps you on the edge of your seat the entire time. If you haven’t read it yet, here is a blog post about just how creepy it is. Every nail-biting suspenseful show needs a great soundtrack, and that’s just what this one has.
- “Losing My Mind” – Lisa Lois
- “Got It Bad” – LEISURE
- “Clap Your Hands (feat. Ava Max)” – Le Youth, Ava Max
- “Lying” – Foreign Air
Let me get one thing straight: yes, this show is absolute trash. Corny writing? Yes. Stupid teenage drama? Check. Awful romance plots? You bet. That being said, it’s the kind of trash that fills your heart a bit, that little dumpster section of your heart just overflows with this show. Besides, at least it’s not the Kardashians. The entire soundtrack is too EDM for me, but there are few good songs I was able to pick up.
- “Faking It” – Sasha Sloan
- “bury a friend” – Billie Eilish
Honestly, I’m not really a fan of Billie Eilish, but this song was pretty good, and absolutely fit the vibe of the show.
- “Personal Jesus” – Depeche Mode
Oh yeah, lower the blinds and light up those candles babe, because that’s the only way you can listen to depeche mode. I was honestly surprised that a new show would have this time of music, but it was a pleasant surprise.
- “Feel It” – Thomas Nan, Nácha
“Quantico” is a pretty good show, but each season is pretty much the same story line, so you can stop after one. That being said, the soundtrack usually slaps. I didn’t include a lot of the bigger musical artists, but there was even some Gaga in the mix.
- “Nothing To No One” – Gin Wigmore
I love some Gin Wigmore, her music is like southern motorcycle grunge. What a BAMF.
- “Don’t Wanna Fight” – Alabama Shakes
If you listen to the radio station (which you obviously should) then you know here at KTSW we stand Alabama Shakes.
- “Nemesis” – Benjamin Clementine
- “Strange Enough” – VÉRITÉ
- “Monster” – Jacob Banks
Monster is the theme song for Quantico, and it gets incredibly catchy very quickly. So I did you a favor and added it to the playlist. You’re welcome.
- “Fire Rides” – MØ
- “Medication” – Nick Murphy, Chet Faker
- “Vodka” – The Supermen Lovers, Igor, Natty Fensie
This song was just too weird, I couldn’t not include it in this list. I honestly don’t know what is being said half the time, much less what genre it is. Definitely worth a listen if you like music that’s pretty out there.
- “Apocalypse” – Cigarettes After Sex
See, I told you they’d be back. Still amazing, I highly recommend listening to them while you cry in the shower. I’m not saying I have, but I definitely have.
I make a million and one playlists per month, so of course I made one for my Netflix shows too. The list above has most of my favorite ones, but there a few more you can listen to by following this link.
To me, nothing makes a show or movie so tantalizing as when the soundtrack fits perfectly, and if you’re like me and you have a playlist for every mood imaginable then it’s a great way to fill up your music library.
