International Men’s Day: Just a Few Iconic Men’s TV Characters

Men TV characters. They make us laugh, cry and wish they were real. The best characters don’t hide who they are, and express themselves in whatever way feels real. Sure, I may be biased being born in the very late ‘90s, but here are a few characters that speak to me as a Netflix fanatic and are always on our screens.

The amount of iconic male characters is nearly infinite, but here are a few male characters that I think hold a special place in our hearts and represent something bigger than themselves.

1. The Men of “Friends”

You already know these men were going to make the list. Chandler Bing, Ross Geller and Joey Tribbiani have the most distinct, yet lovable personalities. Each of these characters stay true to themselves, despite being the butt of the joke sometimes.

2. Ron Swanson, “Parks and Recreation”

Did someone say steak? Ron Swanson appears tough on the outside, but as you get to know him, you know that Ron would do anything for his friends at the Parks and Rec Department.

3. Dr. Derek Sheppard, “Grey’s Anatomy”

An empathetic and loveable iconic TV character. He certainly wasn’t afraid to show true feelings in “Grey’s Anatomy.”

4. Homer Simpson, “The Simpsons”

Homer Simpson. A lovable and hilarious TV dad who is bluntly himself – and we love it. That’s why he’s been on our TV screens for so long.

5. Captain Raymond Holt, “Brooklyn 99”

A respected captain and good friend. On the outside, Captain Holt is a strict rule-follower, but to Precinct 99, he is an empathetic and kind-hearted who watches out for his friends and fights for what he feels is just. Also, he has a corgi.

6. Michael Scott, “The Office”

Do I even need to say anything about Michael Scott? Yeah, he’s loud and ignorant at times, but you can’t deny his devotion and love for the people in his life. Micheal Scott refuses to be described in a few words.

7. Jim Hopper, “Stranger Things”

The character development of Jim Hopper just makes the audience love him more. A man who has been through tough times puts everything on the line for the safety of his community and the “Stranger Things” kids. On a side note, he’s totally coming back in season four.

8. Phillip J. Fry, “Futurama”

The innocent and hilarious Fry has makes me smile every episode, his wholesomeness is so adorable. Fry’s relationship with Bender is the friendship we all want, and his love for Lela sees no limits. He’s just a wonderful character that makes the best of any situation.

9. Spock, “Star Trek”

Spock was a valuable member of the starship Enterprise, and with his intelligence and empathy, became a memorable character in the series. With the iconic haircut and ears, Spock will never leave our hearts. Live long and prosper.

10. Phil Dunphy, “Modern Family”

Phil Dunphy is that classic, lovable TV dad who would do anything for his kids and loves his family unconditionally. With his dorky one-liners and wholesome jokes, Dunphy brightens up the room and can always make an audience smile.

There you have it – just a few iconic male TV characters that come to mind for International Men’s Day. No matter age, race or sexuality, male characters will always offer us something on our screens. They may be goofy, courageous, shy or stern, but they will always be iconic.
