The Texas State Bobcat baseball team has continued their successful start to the season by winning six of their last seven games, including an impressive 12-2 run-rule victory over Baylor on Tuesday in Waco.

The Bobcats have seen an improved performance at the plate in recent games with the team hitting .263 with 14 home runs on the season. A huge part of those improved numbers at the plate has been the emergence of junior infielder Wesley Faison. In Tuesday’s game at Baylor, Faison was 4-5 with two home runs. He is now 9-12 with 4 home runs in the Bobcats last three games, raising his batting average to .400 on the season.

On the mound, the right-handed pitcher Zachary Leigh has proven himself as a capable Friday night starter for the Bobcats. Through three starts Leigh is 1-1 with a 2.50 ERA. In those starts, he has struck out 22 batters and held opposing hitters to a .167 batting average. Leigh leads a Bobcat pitching staff that currently has a team ERA of 3.32.

This weekend the Bobcats will welcome the Wildcats of Bethune-Cookman University to San Marcos. The Wildcats are 5-8 on the season and are coming off a 5-0 loss versus Stetson University on Wednesday night. The Wildcats have struggled at the plate only hitting .197 as a team. Chase DeBonis leads the Wildcats hitting .286 on the season.

Bethune-Cookman has a strong pitching staff with a current team ERA of 2.25. Nick Rogers and Alec Mendez have had strong starts to the 2020 season for the Wildcats on the mound. Rogers currently has a 1.15 ERA and is holding opposing hitters to a .176 batting average in 15.2 innings pitched. Opponents’ batting against Mendez have hit .145 and he leads the Wildcats pitching staff with an ERA of 0.45.

All three games will be played at Bobcat Ballpark and will be broadcasted on KTSW 89.9. For more information on Texas State athletics’ broadcasts, updates and coverage, follow KTSW Sports on Twitter.
