Drive-Through COVID-19 Testing Comes to San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO – Governor Greg Abbott announced on Friday, Mar.13, that San Antonio will be the first city in Texas to receive drive-through Coronavirus (COVID-19) testing in response to the ongoing emergency. At the time, the tests are only available for first responders and public safety and health care workers.

The facility opened on Friday in the South Texas Medical Center. Because it is not open to the public, the exact location is not being released.

If a first responder or public safety or health care worker is showing COVID-19 symptoms and have tested negative for the flu, the organization they work for will perform the coronavirus test. Testing will be held during business hours all week, and results take an average of two days to receive.

Abbott said on Friday that more facilities will be coming to Houston, Austin and Dallas by next week. Additionally, President Donald Trump announced that Google will create an online virus screening tool to help people determine if they should be tested. Officials are urging people to not get tested unless they are showing certain symptoms.
