04/20/20 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update

SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Hays County Local Health Department reported eight new positive lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19, bringing the current amount of active cases to 76. 

That brings the total number of positive cases in Hays County to 135. 58 individuals have recovered and only one fatality has occurred in Hays County. 

Gov. Greg Abbott announced that the Texas National Guard will be mobilizing more than 1,200 personnel as part of COVID-19 mobile testing teams (MTT). 

Teams will consist of 45 members– 11 medical professionals and support staff and 34 soldiers. 25 teams will be deployed to locations based on assessments made by The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS), with the first two going to Fredericksburg and Floresville, Texas.

“The State of Texas continues to expand our COVID-19 testing capacities and ensure that communities across the lone star state have access to the resources they need,” Abbott said in a press release today.

Mobile testing teams will be in charge of providing greater access to medical testing. The MTTs are in collaboration with the Texas Division of Emergency Management and DSHS.
