There have been many amazing live shows in Austin over the years, and it makes me appreciate the live music scene because of the massive opportunities we have at our fingertips when it comes to live music! I’ve met so many people along the way that have been an honor to meet, because it’s liberating to be in a position where you and numerous people are gathered for the same thing which is music! It’s a phenomenal experience and privilege to be able to live through such amazing times.
To start with, one of the earliest live shows I’ve attended was a band called M83. I had never been into electronic/ambient/experimental music before that, and they were the first group that introduced me to that kind of music. When I saw them live in 2016, I was taken aback immediately by their stage presence and their musical abilities. They have a reputable talent that goes far beyond just one album because they have constantly expanded their sound over the years.
I’ve seen The 1975 four times over the past few years, and my admiration for them has grown every time; they never fail to blow me away. They put a lot of effort into their visual stage production, which adds so much to a live performance other than just the music itself.
The best way I can describe The 1975 is that they are a diverse band with no genre and an overall humble, inspired musical background that shows in their live performances.
Brockhampton is the best boyband in today’s music industry. They consist of seven members along with their own producers/engineers, visual artists, and management. I’ve seen them twice here in Austin, and they have an amazing unique rap sound that sets them apart from other artists.
If you see them live, you need to be prepared to be thrashed along with being blown away with their high-energy performances.
Lastly, I have to give it up for our local artists here in Austin, especially Latchkeykid. If you are on campus in downtown Austin, or if you are ever in the area, you will catch these boys playing a strong set! The best attribute about Latchkeykid is that they have a sound that comes from a genuine place with a mix of alternative/psych, jazzy-pop, and rock.
They are a crowd-pleaser for anyone that has open ears for talented local artists here in Austin.
