Previous to Cannelle’s modeling for prestigious fashion houses or releasing music to an ever-expanding global audience, she was staging photoshoots throughout the fields and gardens in her family’s backyard located within a small village outside of Marseille, France. Equipped with her own inquisitive attitude or access to online spaces like Tumblr or Pinterest, Ferragu transformed the French countryside into her own personal fairytale world, imagining herself as a fairy in a forest whilst she documented varying sources of creative inspiration and personal experiences on her father’s phone.
Fast forward to the modern day, these same Do-It-Yourself instincts have transported the model, musician, creative director, and producer into one of the electronic scene’s most exhilarating emerging careers.
Ferragu first rose to fame through her modeling occupations alongside brands and publications including Dr. Martens, Rimowa, Adidas, Valentino, HIGHSNOBIETY, Heaven by Marc Jacobs, Galore Magazine, and Schön Magazine. Throughout the campaigns and editorials, the creative identity of a blossoming artist was slowly but surely in the works.

Amid her interviews with WIRES00, Office Magazine, and The Fader, Ferragu reflected upon her experience growing up as the only black girl and the only outwardly alternative person in her quaint French village. Due to her shortage of a localized creative community that properly mirrored her interests, she relied upon online spaces such as Tumblr and Instagram, where varied internet subcultures and niche aesthetics provided both a sense of belonging and an innovative ascension. Through her participation in these online spaces, Ferragu experimented with visual storytelling, photography, and aesthetics that continuously define her work to this day.
Additionally, music was equally intertwined with her humble upbringing. Her father, who was a musician who garnered knowledge and skills regarding multiple instruments, including bass, piano, and drums, acquainted her with synthesizers from her youth. Simultaneously, her sister’s prolific expertise in DJ-ing allowed Ferragu to be engrossed within the intricacies of the electronic music scene. Rather than delaying her actions until her outward environmental conditions varied, Ferragu taught herself to produce, once again, pursuing a new creative format with a reciprocal hands-on philosophy that fueled her early days of visual-based art and photography. Whether it was through directing her own music videos and photoshoots or producing records, self-assembly alongside a homemade touch has remained integral to her overarching creative process.
Furthermore, that philosophy culminated in CINNA, her debut mixtape, which was released on June 26, 2026. The amalgamation of EDM, Electropop, and Hyperpop results in the entirety of the body of work acting as a projection of her multilingual background adjacent to the digital realms that metamorphosed her intrinsic perspective. Accompanying her opening performance for Ninajirachi earlier this year at Michigan’s Royal Oak Music Theatre, Ferragu celebrated the publishing of her mixtape with a plethora of shows in Brooklyn, New York, and Los Angeles, California. Subsequent to the release of CINNA, Cannelle had temporarily become the face of Spotify’s “hyperpop” playlist. The playlist itself has amassed over 500,000 saves, further cementing her credibility as an up-and-coming musical visionary, while familiarizing her work with thousands of potential listeners.

Ferragu’s rise coincides with a fortuitous renaissance of internet culture that was initially her most considerable source of inspiration. Across platforms such as TikTok and Instagram, Tumblr’s original aesthetics have made a subtle yet irrefutable restoration. Whether through the usage of soft pastel hues, grainy filters meant to replicate the lighthearted origins of the digital age, or editing techniques that imitate the era of lively Tumblr or MySpace blog spaces, the rebirth contains an inability to be disregarded. Phrases such as “2026 is the new 2016” or hashtags like “#Swag” are widely circulating in virtual communities as the youth unveils the markings of our not-so-distant past.
In contrast to a vast majority of particularly mainstream artists adopting trends in a deferred fashion, Ferragu has never strayed from what sprouted her into her individuality as a multifaceted artist. In fact, her creative direction has accurately echoed the cyber landscapes she was molded from as a mere pre-teen. Some examples could include her Pastel Goth styling adorned in her “Stereo” music video, and baby blue hair she frequently sports. Moreover, her branding feels less like an act of inauthenticity to acquire fame or grand recognition, but rather, a seamless resumption of her identity.
This similar call to nostalgia is making waves across miscellaneous underground music scenes. Artists such as Snow Strippers, Jane Remover, Bassvictim, Frost Children, Machine Girl, DJMegan23, 100 Gecs, and Underscores have embraced maximalism in terms of their production, while neighboring callbacks to the internet the bulk of Generation Z warmly treasures. Concurrently, however, acts like 2hollis, Nettspend, Feng, MIRRAR, Molly Santana, and fakemink are weaving comparable elements into their electronic-adjacent works. Overall, where these artists’ works overlap is in the references to Generation Z’s youth: 2010s memes, cartoon-based imagery, and playful irreverence that defined the internet prior to algorithmic suppression as a means to satisfy corporations.
The uptick in these particular resurgences is not coincidental, but on the contrary, blaringly strategic. As discussions surrounding “Recession Pop” and Escapist Dance Music have arisen in the wake of Charli xcx’s “Brat Summer,” Electronic music has retrieved conventional momentum. Nonetheless, this movement extends far beyond the depiction of the early 2010s. Artists similar to Cannelle are re-envisioning that distinct era through a contemporary lens, utilizing nostalgia as a basis rather than a gimmick.
While the general population of artists merely borrows from the internet’s inception, Ferragu carves her own path due to her intrinsic foundation being constructed upon it. What began as a teenage daydream in the French countryside has matured into an irrevocable artistic vision. The modern-day listener yearns for art that feels un-curated, inventive, and sincere. By paying homage to her Tumblr girl roots rather than pursuing fleeting trends, Ferragu is living proof that new-age nostalgia rejects the act of sheer reminiscence but instead rejuvenates timeless ideologies.
