Supporting local businesses is always a wonderful way to connect with your community, and it is especially important to support the individual owners behind these businesses.
According to the National Association of Women Business Owners, there were over 13 million women-owned businesses in the United States as of 2021. Here are some great women-owned businesses in San Marcos to visit and support this International Women’s Day:
Herbs and Oddities
I first stumbled upon Herbs and Oddities while trying to find a local source to buy rose petals for baking, but fell in love with the environment and the wide range of metaphysical products at this shop. It is a smaller store but is completely packed with different herbs that can be bought in bulk, crystals, incense, and so much more. When I went, the person behind the counter was so passionate about their products and more than happy to explain things to me, so I highly recommend paying Herbs and Oddities a visit!
Flowerland
As someone obsessed with turning my apartment into a little jungle, I love stopping by Flowerland to check out their selection of plants. Aside from their collection of little green friends to adopt, Flowerland has really cute planters and other plant accessories. Their floral arrangements, which are the real stars here, are gorgeous as well, so picking up a bouquet for a woman in your life this International Women’s Day is a great idea.
Phire Girl Hair and Beauty
Phire Girl Hair and Beauty is a black-owned and woman-owned business that recently opened up in the outlets, and I’ve heard great things about it so far. Phire Girl has a variety of different hair products, hair care services and nail services. The store has made it their priority to not only sell quality products and provide quality services for clients but also help clients learn how to best take care of their hair and nails. I love when businesses truly care about the connections they form with customers, and Phire Girl has definitely mentioned that this is a huge priority for them.
Jo’s Cafe
Jo’s is probably my favorite coffee shop in San Marcos. The food and coffee are amazing and it is such a perfect study spot that is cozy on the inside and has a wonderful outdoor seating area as well. Jo’s also holds quite a few special events, pop-up shops, and other community events that really make me feel right at home. I highly recommend picking up a Caprese panini and iced shyster at Jo’s for your next study session!
Taiwan Bowl
Anyone who has been to Taiwan Bowl will probably tell you how sweet and outgoing the owner is, and it has become one of my favorite local restaurants for this reason. The portions at Taiwan Bowl are huge, everything is so tasty, and getting to chat while waiting for my food always makes my day. An insane amount of love and care goes into every meal here, so if you’re looking for a dinner destination to celebrate this International Women’s Day, look no further.
There are so many other wonderful woman-owned businesses in San Marcos and neighboring areas, but these are just a few that I have heard wonderful things about from friends or personally love myself. Be sure to check out the spots above, and don’t forget to support and honor the women in your life this International Women’s Day!
