The San Marcos Lady Rattlers basketball team fell to the San Antonio East Central Hornets, 49-34, Friday at the Snake Pit in San Marcos, Texas.
Multiple turnovers in the first half and costly fouls late in the fourth quarter deemed to be the difference in the matchup between the Rattlers and the Hornets as San Marcos fell to 1-6 in District 27-6A play and 13-17 on the season.
Freshman guard Azariah “Azzy” Fennell accounted for over a third of the Rattlers’ points as she put up 12 against the Hornets. Behind Fennell, the next leading scorer for the Rattlers was senior forward, Amiya Moore, with seven in the game.
Rounding out the scoring for the Rattlers were sophomore guard Alyeceia Pierson, freshmen forward Melayna Perkins with six apiece and senior forward Saylor Upshaw with four.
East Central’s senior forward, Asia Prudhomme, accounted for nearly half of the Hornets points with 22 on the night, helping to improve her team’s record to 4-3 in District 27-6A play and 23-10 on the season.
The San Marcos Lady Rattlers basketball team will be back in action on Tuesday, January 31, to take on the Clemens Buffaloes in the Snake Pit. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on KTSW 89.9.
