Texas State men’s basketball (12-15 overall, 5-9 in conference) suffered a tough loss to Old Dominion (16-10 overall, 8-6 Sun Belt Conference) Saturday afternoon at Strahan Arena in San Marcos, Texas.
Texas State was handed its ninth loss in conference play to Old Dominion by a score of 70-68. The Bobcats started off great in the opening five minutes of the game tying the game to 8-8.
But then the ‘Cats slowly started to progress, scoring 30-32 toward the end of the half. Within two minutes left of the first half Texas State was struggling to keep up with Old Dominion making the score 32-35, with Freshman Guard Jordan Mason scoring a layup to make the bobcats only down by three.
On the next Monarch possession, Old Dominion guard Chaunce Jenkins knocks down two free throws to end the half with a score of 37-32, with Texas State down by 5 in the first half.
In the middle of the second half, the Bobcats take over the lead by six points changing the score to 41-47, with junior forward Nate Martin knocking down a jumper and senior forward Nigheal Ceaser making a layup.
Toward the end of the game Texas State was trailing 60-68 until junior forward, Nate Martin knocks down a pair of free throws, with freshman Jordan Mason hitting a three and Senior Guard Mason Harrell making a layup making them change the lead to only one point.
Texas State was holding its own for the last minute of the game when freshman Jordan Mason gets fouled making one out of the two free throws, having Texas state tied until with four seconds left on the clock Old Dominion sophomore guard Imo Essien drives down the court scoring a layup to win the game by two.
In another loss freshman guard Jordan Mason filled up the stat sheet with 11 points and four rebounds. While Mason Harrell finished with 17 points and five rebounds.
Texas State will play its next game against Appalachian state on February 16 at 5:30 p.m. where you can listen live on KTSW 89.9!
