The long-awaited end of the spring semester has passed, and I am excited for the summer ahead. There are lots of things you can do to make the most out of your summer, but in case you’re fresh out of ideas, here are six things you can do this summer that I will also be doing.

  1. Go to the beach. This is a very obvious summer activity and in many ways one of the most fun options. Swimming in the waves, getting a skimboard to ride the waves, watching the sunset on the water etc. make the beach a fun option. However, I understand that the sandy environment isn’t for everyone, so maybe the lake would be a better option.
  2. Go to the lake. Going to the lake has a totally different vibe than going to the beach. You can go kayaking, swimming, ride a boat or jet ski, paddle boarding, fishing etc. You have a variety of fun things you can do at a lake. If you know someone who has a permanent residence at a lake, you win. I am thankful to have a few friends whose parents live by a lake, so I am looking forward to spending a few days in the summer floating in the water and relaxing. If lakes still aren’t the move for you, then try the river.
  3. Float a River. If you want more of a party vibe, then floating the river is what you want to do. Floating down the river while playing music from a speaker and going with a big group of people is another thing I’m looking forward to this summer. You will not meet a more friendly crowd of people than when you’re floating in the river. I’ve listed all these bodies of water you can go to, but there are other things you can do besides be in the water.
  4. Visit Purgatory Creek. You can enjoy a day of leisurely hiking at Purgatory Creek Natural Area. You can have a picnic at the overlook and have a nice relaxing day. If you want a bit more intense of a hike, there are other places you can go.
  5. Visit Enchanted Rock. Enchanted Rock in Fredericksburg is a very fun hike, and there are quite a few trails surrounding the rock as well. A little more intense than the trails in San Marcos, but still nothing too crazy. I’ll be visiting Enchanted Rock this summer! However, these aren’t the only natural areas available to visit this summer.
  6. Visit other natural areas. There are so many beautiful places that you can visit this summer; to name a few: McKinney Roughs Nature Park, Colorado Bend State Park, Zilker Nature Preserve, Jacob’s Well Nature Area, Hill Country State Natural Area, Government Canyon State Natural Area etc. Those are only a few of hundreds of places you could visit in Texas this summer.

I hope I have given you a few more ideas of things you can do this summer, and I hope that everyone has an amazing summer!
