SAN MARCOS, TEXAS— In a captivating showdown between the Rattlers and Lions last Wednesday, the Rattlers delivered an impressive performance, ultimately emerging as the triumphant victors over the Lions.
The San Marcos Rattlers, who are now 10-4, have always displayed how dangerous they are when it comes to scoring points, and this game was no different. The final score of this showdown would end up to be 80-35, with the Rattlers coming out on top. From the tip off, the Rattlers were applying pressure on the Lions, going from coast to coast and scoring left and right. Going into half time, the Rattler had established a significant lead and went into the break with confidence.
While the Rattlers had an impressive showing on the offensive side, they also managed to play impressive defense which resulted in the Lions not being able to convert many opportunities.

Head Coach, Dan Miller, talks about the importance of Rattler defense and how it contributed to the Rattlers impressive win.
“That’s what we hang our hat on, our DNA is our defense,” said Miller. “That’s what we work on a lot, and we feel like if we’re not shooting well, we’re going to be in games because we can get defensive stops.”
Despite having the lead going into halftime, once the third quarter began it was like a new sense of life had been bestowed into the Rattlers and they played as if they were trying to catch up. Within the first minute, the Rattlers had managed to score 10 points back to back. This impressive streak was aided by some impressive threes and the Rattlers converting turnovers that the Lions had given up.
Standout players throughout the game would have to be Zyair Jolivette, Donavan Riddick, and Josiah Hollmon. These players were all over the court and were a menace on the court both offensively and defensively, ultimately helping the Ratters secure the win.

Preparing for the next game, Coach Miller has established what will need to be done to keep the momentum from this win and carry it to the next one.
“We’re going to have to be creative and find a way,” said Miller . “ We know it will be another challenge, every team has a chance and every team is good, so we will have to refocus and be ready Friday night.”
Looking forward, the Rattlers will play Liberal Arts Science Academy, Friday December 8th at 7 p.m.
