In a vibrant community overflowing with talent, standing out is undoubtedly seen as a challenge. Despite the stiff competition, a local San Marcos band named Ladyluck has managed to defy the odds and begun to achieve cult-like status. With their unique approach to shoegaze music, feeding the insatiable demand of fans valuing quality above all else, this band perfectly represents the talent offered by this scene.

Setting the Scene

In January 2023, Ladyluck, who formerly went as the Crash Test Girls, made their official debut at the renowned Earle’s Basement venue. Sparking widespread interest in those who attended, the band was able to play a packed-out show the following month. Through appearances at venues like Lazy Daze and Don’s Japanese Kitchen, Ladyluck began to carve out a niche in the local music scene, supported by the efforts of their booking and management team Distortion Media, at the time.

Dynamic Shows & Studio Previews

During this time, Ladyluck primarily showcased their songs and musical style through electrifying live performances, where the power of their sound could be felt from the first chord. Their alluring stage presence fully embodied their unique take on the shoegaze style. As the band expanded into Austin, delivering a standout performance at the Chess Club, hints of a potential project would continue to surface through glimpses of a recording studio on their social media.

The Return of Lady Luck

As summer approached, an eerie silence would come over the band. With no-show announcements and sparse social media activity, former Crash Test Girls fans were left to speculate about a potential hiatus. Concerns lingered until mid-September when their return was announced under the new name Ladyluck. Unveiling a slight change to their line-up at their Friday the 13th show, at the Scary Shack, the band was happily embraced by the San Marcos community. Ladyluck continued their streak of captivating performances, now focusing their efforts towards bridging the gap between their San Marcos and Austin fan bases. With notable shows at Private Park and the Austin High Tunnels, the group thrived amidst a growing audience.

Debut Single: “Hazel”

Last month, fresh off the release of their debut single “Hazel” speculation about Ladyluck’s potential project was finally put to rest. With its unique approach, the song challenges traditional pop music norms by dedicating the first minute and a half to an instrumental introduction, showcasing the essence of Ladyluck. It [the single] serves as a cornerstone for a band with widespread commercial appeal, unafraid to stay true to their artistic visions. “Hazel” not only showcases Ladyluck’s unique approach to the Shoegaze genre but also amplifies the message of a band that knows exactly who they are.
