With spring break right around the corner, the concert season for Texas State’s various ensembles is about to come in full swing as groups get ready to showcase the music they have been working on all semester. From opera to jazz and everything in between, here are some upcoming performances where you can see our incredible Texas State musicians perform.

Kicking off the festivities is the opera “Light in the Piazza,” which opened on March 21 and closed on March 24. This show, which took place at the Evan’s Liberal Arts auditorium, was a mesmerizing tale of love, family and self-discovery set against the backdrop of Italy in the 1950s. With the lush melodies and an emotionally charged storyline, this production promised to transport audiences to a world of romance and intrigue. Even if you had never seen an opera before, Texas State Opera’s rendition of “Light in the Piazza” was a great setting for a classical musical to introduce you to the world of opera!

For fans of choral music, the various Texas State choirs have performances running on April 20 and 21. With six different ensembles: Chorale, University Singers, Aurora Voce, the Tenor/Bass choir, the Treble choir, the acapella ensemble and VocaLibre. There will be plenty of chances to catch a performance. Come out to a show and allow yourself to be enchanted by voices raised together in harmony. You can catch these performances in the Patti Strickel Harrison Theater.

Instrumental enthusiasts won’t be disappointed either, as there are many kinds of ensembles here at Texas State that play a diverse array of music. To start, the Jazz Orchestra will be performing an array of standards on April 17, and Mariachi, Lince de Oro, has a showcase lined up the very next day.

Last on the lineup, running from April 16 to 21, is the musical “Urinetown,” a darkly comedic satire that offers a fresh take on the age-old battle between the haves and the have-nots. Set in a dystopian future where water is scarce and private toilets are a thing of the past, “Urinetown” tells the story of a revolution sparked by a group of rebels fighting against corrupt corporate interests. Make sure to catch a performance at the Patti Strickel Harrison Theater main stage to experience the witty humor and catchy tunes of Texas State’s musical theater program.

So, mark your calendars, and get ready to experience the magic of live music and theater at Texas State University this spring. Don’t forget to go to txstatepresents.com to get your tickets for these incredible performances. See you at the show!
