SAN MARCOS, Texas- The Texas State Bobcats took down Southern Miss Golden Eagles 3-0 in their second game of this home series.

Texas State came off vigorously from the start. The first set was a quick one, with a final score 25-11. Southern Miss struggled to respond and gave up the largest score deficit of the game. The Bobcats took the next two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-19. During the third set, Southern Miss held their only lead with the largest gap of 15-17. The Bobcats did not let up and quickly put themselves back on top. Texas State walked away from this win leading in kills, blocks, and assists.

Starting setter Ryan Torres was recognized at this game for surpassing the 2,000 assist mark. She averages 10.10 a game and is now ranked 45th in the NCAA D1 Women’s Volleyball program. At no surprise, she led this game in assists with 38. Southern Miss as a whole finished with 31.

Texas State’s outside hitters Maggie Walsh and MJ McCurdy provided nearly half of the kills for Texas State with a combined number of 23. They  have been a threat to study all season and lived up to their reputation during these past two sweeps against Southern Miss. McCurdy closed out the Southern Miss series with 18 blocks and Walsh finished with  22.

The closer scores in the second and third set did not reflect the level of intensity that Texas State showed during this game. They were completely dominant over Southern Miss. They built off of their own mistakes and adjusted accordingly. The Golden Eagles were unable to match the physicality and speed that the Bobcats were playing at.

The Bobcats are now sitting at a 9-3 record in conference play and are on a four game win streak. Texas State sits at third in the western SBC division. They are looking to continue their streak next week in an away series against Coastal Carolina. Their next home series will start Thursday, Nov. 14th, at 4:30 p.m. against James Madison University.
