SAN MARCOS—A cold front will be moving through the Texas State University area as a cold weather and wind Advisory starts at midnight until noon Wednesday. An Extreme Cold Warning is issued for Wednesday night throughout Thursday morning.
Wind chills will be moving through Central Texas until Thursday and will be the “coldest air of the season,” according to National Weather Service Austin/San Antonio.
Wind chill temperatures will range from 6 to 20 degrees throughout Hill Country and I-35, according to the weather service on X.
“Behind the strong cold front, north wind from 15-25 mph will gust up to 40 mph. Secure light weight items and watch for tree limbs on the road,” the weather service said.

The weather service recommends dressing in warm layers, keeping plants and pets indoors and checking in on elderly neighbors and family.
Central Texas cities like San Angelo will be hit the hardest tonight and are under Extreme Cold Warning.
Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) also issued a weather watch on Feb. 17th and says power grid conditions are “expected to be normal.”
“In anticipation of the extreme cold weather, ERCOT is coordinating preparation efforts with the Texas Energy Reliability Council, the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the Texas Department of Emergency Management, and other state agencies, as well as with Market Participants,” ERCOT said in a press release.
TXST Emergency Management has not sent out a weather emergency alert for Tuesday or Wednesday’s facility operating hours.
