SAN MARCOS — A Texas State University alumnus has donated $500,000 to help fund a leadership program through the McCoy College of Business.
The R.L. “Dick” Burdick Dean’s Leadership Academy is a program available to junior and senior business students at Texas State, where they can build leadership skills and create professional connections to support their careers after graduation.
“We want the dean’s leadership academy to be a program that’s designed to shape the next generation of ethical, innovative, and globally minded business leaders,” said Assistant Dean and Chief of Staff Seth Frei.
The program accepts 15 business students each year. Once accepted, students participate in activities aimed at developing leadership skills, building professional networks and collaborating with business leaders.
This semester, students in the program will travel to India, visiting two cities and several companies to observe business leaders in their workplaces.
“This donation is going to help ensure that this program continues for years and years to come,” said Frei. “We hope that we’re able to continue to impact high quality leaders, and instill high quality leadership values in our graduates from McCoy College.”
In addition to the $500,000 donation, the McCoy College Foundation has agreed to match the contribution, bringing the total funding for the program to $1 million.
University officials said the donations will support the continuation of the leadership academy and its programming.
