SAN MARCOS, Texas ––– The Texas State Bobcats fell 6-3 in their second game of the conference series against the ULM Warhawks.
The Warhawks came out with hot bats in the first inning, but the Bobcats responded with a few runs of their own early in the game.
In the second inning, Kat Zarate had a hard ground ball to center that allowed her on base. Following Zarate, Mayson Garrett hit a double also to center field. Sydney Harvey and Keely Williams both got by with a walk, allowing Zarate to score. Lastly, Kate Bubela hit an RBI ground ball to allow Garrett to join Zarate on the scoreboard.

The Bobcats and Warhawks battled it out in the third and fourth inning, neither recording any runs.
Emma Strood started the game in the circle, quickly followed by Abigail Jennings. In the fifth inning, freshman pitcher Chesney Davis came in to relieve Jennings. Then to finish out the game, freshman Kaili Witherell took over.
Coach Ricci Woodard said that from the pitching side of the game, the Bobcats need to do better at attacking the zone to keep the warhawks from getting on base.
“If you let them [ULM] get on the base path, they’re going to capitalize on that,” said Woodard.
While the game did not go as planned for the bobcats, Coach Woodard said that the plan for the bobcats to finish out this series successfully is to execute on more pitches thrown their way.
“We gotta do a better job at the plate,” said Woodard. “We don’t necessarily need to work harder, but we gotta work smarter.”
The Bobcats will finish up the series against the Warhawks on March 15th at the Bobcat Softball Stadium.
