City of Buda develops multi-million dollar investment to expand sports infrastructure

BUDA– The City of Buda accepted a $3 million investment from the Buda Economic Development Corporation (EDC) to expand Championship Park.

According to a press release, the renovations include upgraded ball fields for softball and baseball, and recreational fields for soccer, flag football and lacrosse– all built to support big tournaments hosted by the city and used by locals. The expected completion for the project is early spring of 2027.

The investment will not only help cement Buda’s reputation of excellence in infrastructure and service, but it will also stimulate the local economy through tourism.

Director of Community Relations & Destination Services Lysa Rodriguez said Buda will bring in revenue from renting out the courts and visitor use of local dining, hospitality and entertainment services. The city is projected to host 10 to 12 tournaments during its first year of operation.

The original sportsplex was built in 2007 by the EDC, but it wasn’t until 2017 that discussions began to turn it into a high-capacity venue.

After years of discussion surrounding funding and end-goal projections, construction officially started in 2025.

With sports tourism trending nearby in the city of Round Rock– also heavily investing in infrastructure to host tournaments– Buda plans to stand out by offering top-level, tournament-quality facilities that will support events from little leagues to high-level competitions, both regional and national.

Renovations to the park not only include the fields, but also improvements for the ticketing offices, concession stands and added parking capacity.

Rodriguez highlights Buda’s commitment to high-quality service and accessibility to services.

She said the parks and nature facilities are one of the best things Buda has to offer, so residents already have high expectations for Championship Park.

“Quality of life for our residents is the most important thing we can provide to our community,” Rodriguez said.

“We want them to feel that it is worth living here. That means they have to have facilities that feel are giving that to them, and this facility is a reflection of the city of Buda giving them what they ask for: great facilities and great customer service.”

Sponsorship opportunities are available for organizations interested in supporting the development and maintenance of Championship Park.

Currently, however, the project is supported only by the city and the EDC.
