SAN MARCOS, Texas – Texas State Volleyball loses another conference game, this time 1-3 to Boise State. With just five games left in their season, the Bobcats are now the bobcats are now in a race for the potential last seed in the PAC-12 conference tournament with the other bottom teams such as Fresno State and Gonzaga.

Despite a close 26-24 win in the first set, the Bobcats’ offense would run ice cold for sets two and three. Texas State seemed to wake up again in the fourth set, but by then it was too little too late. Texas State volleyball coach Sean Huiet had this to say about the loss.

“We gave up 46 points, right? You’re probably not going to beat a lot of teams when you give them 46 points,” Huiet said. “The first set we both (teams) played kind of ugly, but we gritted it out; they started to clean up a little bit, and then we never did. 34 hitting errors, that’s just, that’s not good.”

Coach Huiet pointed out that despite the hitting errors, Texas State did find a couple of grooves offensively, but that they were constantly on the back foot due to the Bobcats’ struggles on defense.

“Our Defense has taken a huge step back,” Huiet Stated. “We are last in blocks, last in digs, and that is not Texas State volleyball, so us as the coaching staff are trying to figure that side out, but again the high error of playing clean, those are the moments that are making it easier for teams to beat us.”

Despite the setbacks this season, Coach Huiet and the rest of his staff still see potential in the team they have created.

“I’ve joked a couple times like, ‘I wish we were worse at volleyball,’ but we are actually good,” Huiet said. “Volleyball is a mental sport, and we’re dealing with a lot of that, and there’s a fine line as a coach of trying to push them in those moments, but because we’re so kind of mentally soft with some of that, you can’t push too hard because we’re going to lose them, so finding that balance has been kind of frustrating as a coaching staff.”

Texas State is now 7-15 on the season. They are at the bottom of the standings, tied with Gonzaga, as their record drops to 2-9 in PAC-12 play. The Bobcats will hit the road to play Utah State in Logan on November 4th  before returning to San Marcos for their game against Fresno State on November 7th.
