By Neil Manning Music Journalist “All Alright”- Zac Brown Band This song, released in 2013 is a great song to cruise around to at any hour. While not featured on a full length album, it was a part of “The Grohl Sessions, Vol. 1,” where Dave Grohl produced four songs with the country band. While Zac Brown Band is a country band in name, this song features a fairly heavy […]
By Caroline Janes Music Journalist As an avid listener of all things indie rock and pop, I am always on the lookout for new singles and albums to add into my daily mix. We may only be a little over three months into 2018, but it looks like it is already going to be a great year for music. If you’re craving some new music or feeling a little behind […]
By Avery Dawson Music Journalist As the surprisingly cool winter weather of San Marcos fades away and plants begin to blossom, what better way to get in the peppy spring mood than bopping to a happy playlist? Only the most positive, joyful songs will be able to entice that good feeling, and these are just the tracks for the job. 1. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong: "Cheek To Cheek" To […]
By Avery Dawson Music Journalist As Women’s History Month comes to a close, there really is no better time to shine the spotlight on the extremely talented young ladies that form the band Pinky Pinky. Based out of Los Angeles under the record label Innovative Leisure, the girls released a self-titled EP at the beginning of the year, and more recently the EP titled Hot Tears. Though Eva, Anastasia and […]
By Avery Dawson Music Journalist 1. The Mamas & The Papas - Dedicated To The One I Love https://open.spotify.com/track/1mFrjW8e8fuAOowlU3Q3Dr Starting off with a not-so-classic throwback, “Dedicated To The One I Love” draws on the yearning love in couples that are distanced by a literal or metaphorical separation. Though they are most commonly known for other tracks, such as “California Dreamin’” or “Dream A Little Dream Of Me”, this song really […]
By Caroline Janes Music Journalist Valentine’s Day is right around the corner, and although some people see it as a corporate sham to sell cards and chocolate, I think it’s a great time to celebrate love and relationships with anyone in your life. Whether it’s your friends, family, or significant other, Feb. 14 is a great day to show how much you care about your loved ones. Music can be […]
By Clayton Ambrose Music Journalist It’s about that time, ladies and gentlemen. Time for that cool weather to grace our presence with its beautiful and steely chill, albeit for only once or twice a week. However, if those winter winds do ending up rolling up on your doorstep for actual consecutive days, you’re gonna look like a damn fool if you don’t have any music prepared. Luckily, you’ve got me […]
By Maci Woody Local Music Journalist 1. Rusty Dusty - Can’t Stay Here Rusty Dusty graced us with their bluesy indie rock by headlining at KTSW’s second Harvest Fest, and I have been absolutely in love with this song ever since. I adore the ethereal, dreamlike aura it provokes. It’s somber, but determined. The effects placed on the guitar make the song feel far away and deliberately disconnected, which suits […]
By Maci Woody Music Journalist Meanswell- Meanswell Every time this song plays, a bad boy from an 80s high school movie locks eyes with Molly Ringwald at the school prom from across the dance floor and they make up. Okay but seriously, who’s not a sucker for a classic slow song about heartbreak? The belted lyrics are heartfelt, and the instruments are incredibly expressive. This particular track also comes with […]
