Pizza is something we’ve all been around at one point in our lives. It’s the food that keeps on giving, and it’s so incredible that there are even parties dedicated in its name. Many of us grew up eating pizza, and it’s a food we still eat to this very day. There’s no debate as to whether or not pizza is a beautiful thing. Everyone knows it simply is. So here are just a few reasons why pizza is the culinary equivalent of Leonardo DiCaprio.
1.Pizza is simple, yet complex.
At its base, pizza is the loving marriage between three basic ingredients cooked in an oven: flat and round bread, tomatoes and cheese. It has evolved since its conception and is now served many different ways, but it’s this foundation that truly is the beauty of it all. Three ingredients may sound simple enough, but there are chefs all over the world that have spent years perfecting the art of pizza making, which leads me to my next point…
2. Pizza is a universal dish.
Pizza is known all over the world, believe it or not. From its birthplace in Italy, to places across the globe like Japan and Australia, pizza is something that everyone knows. Since it’s such a widespread food, there are many iterations of it. Take Sweden for example; some of the toppings they like to put on top of their pizza include: peanuts, bananas, pineapple and curry powder. Over in France, they like to add a sunny-side up egg right on top of the pizza or fried on the side. I’m blessed enough to have tried this in my life and let me tell you, put an egg on your pizza. Whoever came up with this nonsense is a mad genius and deserves a fulfilling life. I could actually go on and on about eggs, but I think I’ll save that for a future post.
3. You don’t need utensils.
Put down that fork fan, because ‘za is DTG: down-to-go. That’s right folks. Pizza has long been a handheld commodity way before phones were. Dig deep into your primal nature and grab that pizza by the crust and go to town on it. I’m not knocking anyone who prefers to use a fork when they eat pizza. Sometimes, it’s too hot to hold, or you might come across that extra greasy slice and you’d rather not be covered in oils that aren’t your own, if you know what I’m sayin’.
4. It’s versatile.
Pizza is a chameleon. It comes in all shapes, sizes and forms. You have your pan pizza, thin crust, stuffed crust, New York style, Chicago deep dish, California style, Neapolitan, Sicilian, Greek, tomato pie, the list goes on and on! You have your chain pizza places that deliver pizza bliss to your door. You can go to that fancy pantsy pizza place where you can pair your slice with a glass of wine. Or you can give the dough a go and make your own homemade pie!
5. You can eat pizza hot or cold.
This one may be a given for many, but for the skeptics out there, please just hear me out. I myself used to be a firm believer in only eating pizza when it’s fresh, hot n’ steamy. Well, one day, my laziness caught up to me and I just ate that slice right out of the fridge. Don’t knock it till you try it! Cold pizza’s got it goin’ on too!

6. The flavor combinations are exponential.
Pizza is customizable af. Top it off however you please. If you like the simple things in life, go with the classic pepperoni and cheese. If you’re feeling a bit more complex and a bit on the dangerous side, seek the supreme, you omnivore. There are tons of toppings to meet your personal needs. Bacon on bacon on bacon. Little bit of mushrooms? Sike! Dump them shrooms everywhere honey boo boo. Peanut butter and jelly? Yes, I’ve had it before, it’s pretty amazing. The point is, when there are just as many pizza toppings as there are stars in the universe, the possibilities are endless.
7. Because cheese.
I wrote a poem for this one.
Melty, stringy, ooey, gooey, cheese is getting an A on that essay you wrote last night. Cheese is winning concert tickets from your local radio station to see One Direction in Madison Square Garden. Cheese is getting out of the damn friend-zone after six long years. Cheese is being there for the birth of your firstborn child. Cheese.

8. You can have it whenever.
Pizza knows no bounds. You can have it for lunch or dinner, and those leftover slices (if there are any) make for a quick and easy breakfast. If you’re ever starving in the middle of the night, it’s the perfect midnight snack. Pizza is basically the best friend you could ever ask for. They’re there for you all the time, whenever you need them. If that isn’t love, then I don’t know what is.
9. Everyone can enjoy it!
Kids love it. Moms and dads love it. Even cats and dogs love it. Pizza is one of those foods that everyone can appreciate. If you’re ever at a party and there’s pizza among the plethora of other delicious goodies, you can best believe there’s going to be at least one slice on your plate. It’s a go-to food that we all know and love.
10. Pizza is iconic.
Pizza is so great that it has had its fair share of iconic moments in television and film. From Walter White’s pizza on the roof, to Wayne Campbell’s completely nonchalant Pizza Hut plug *wink wink*. There’s the pizza delivery scene from “Home Alone” and that saucy scene with White Goodman and his slice of pie in “Dodgeball”. Characters like Daria and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles make it a point to express their love for pizza and Pixar always has that Pizza Planet truck hiding somewhere in the back of their movies.
It’s easy to say, pizza has made its mark on the world and in our hearts. It’s a dish that’s been passed on from generation to generation and will continue to be one for many years to come. Now enough reading, go grab yourself a slice!
