Life can be a pain in the ass. It’s easy to get bogged down by the never ending cycle of worries. If it’s not stressing over school, it’s applying for jobs, or eating healthy, maintaining a relationship, or even remembering to turn the stove off before you head to class. No matter what it is we’re dealing with at the time, it’s important to remember to try and “treat yo self” every now and then.
You’ve been working hard and non-stop for a while now, putting in that time to better yourself academically or fitness-wise. You’ve been putting in a conscious effort to treat others more kindly, so why not treat yourself to a little somethin’ somethin’? It’s important to reward yourself from time to time in order to practice good self-care. In turn, you’ll be maintaining your own health and happiness. If you’re like me and tend to put other people before yourself, it’s easy to forget about your own well being. If you’re not like me, then kudos! You’re probably already a professional on treating yo self.
Treating yo self is a prime example of establishing a self-reward system whenever you need to reach a certain goal. If you need to finish a paper by Thursday this week, tell yourself you can eat Whataburger if you finish the paper by Wednesday. Or maybe you want to lose a certain amount of pounds by the end of the month. Treat yo self to a good ole’ fashioned shopping spree. By establishing a set of little rewards for meeting your personal agenda, you in turn have created a way of motivating yourself.
This can be a tricky thing to do, as it’s always easy to overindulge. The key is to set small goals and small rewards. Saying you want to lose 20 pounds by the end of the year is a daunting task. Break it up into smaller increments. Change your goal instead to losing 1 pound each week and treating yourself to a nice soft serve cone. The goal suddenly seems much more attainable. Yes, it’s going to take more time to see the results you so desperately want. But if you’re patient enough, you may find that setting smaller goals can lead to even bigger results! Just make sure to maintain consistency and patience with your goals and self-reward system, and you’ll be able to achieve what you want!
At the end of the day, treating yo self is all about self indulgence. It’s good every once in awhile, but if we get carried away with ourselves then we may lose sight of our tracks and our progress. That said, go take that nap you truly deserve. Go buy that pint of Chunky Monkey that you’ve been craving all week. You deserve all the good things in the world my friend! TREAT YO SELF!
