For some, Valentine’s Day is a dreaded, insignificant holiday and for others, it’s the chance to show appreciation for someone special in their life. This day may take the crown of being the most hated American holiday, but for those who do enjoy the sappy gifts and love notes, Austin and its surrounding area offers some pretty interesting date ideas. Check out some of the highlights below to see why V-Day is worth celebrating this year!
All in Love
The Mohawk Austin will be hosting the grooviest Valentine’s Day get-down with artists like Opiuo, Eprom, Pell, Maddy O’Neal and more. Presented by ALL IN, an immersive event experience company, this show will feature vibrant decor, activities and state-of-the-art sound and lighting. This event isn’t just about music, though — there will also be live painters, dancers and slam poetry! Come join in the love with your significant other, your friends or even just yourself on Feb. 14 starting at 7 p.m. Tickets are only $25 right now, and $1 per ticket will be donated to LifeWorks Austin! Go “all in” this Valentine’s Day with a night dedicated to music, art and community.
Date Night at Crux Climbing Center
If you’re looking to do something really fun and out of the ordinary, bring your special someone to Crux Climbing Center for date night, a two for $20 deal starting at 5 p.m. only on Valentine’s Day. Reserve your spot here.
Sunset Zip & Sip
Incorporate some adventure into your plans this month with a Sunset Zip & Sip at Zip Lost Pines! Happening every Saturday in February, this fun-filled excursion will take you and your person soaring over lush forests and deep canyons, with a great view of the Colorado river. Enjoy s’mores around the campfire afterwards and beverages from local favorites for those who are 21+. This event will cost $50 per person or $85 per couple and you can register for it here.
Cupid’s Cruise: Valentine’s Day
Congress Avenue Kayaks will be offering kayak reservations for two on Valentine’s Day that will include a one-hour paddle in a two-person kayak and a sweet treat for your Valentine. Reservations can be made for 12 p.m., 2 p.m. or 4 p.m. and will cost $25 per person.
Anti-Valentine’s Day at Pluckers
If you don’t feel like making the trek up to Austin, keep it local and share one of Gil’s Broiler’s famous Manske Rolls with your Valentine. They’ll think you’re as sweet as the roll itself. Photo by Claire Hansen.
Perhaps Valentine’s Day just isn’t your thing and you’d rather celebrate Anti-Valentine’s Day. Perhaps you also really like chicken wings and having a good time. Well, good news – Pluckers will be having their annual Anti-Valentine’s Day celebration at all Texas locations on Wednesday, Feb. 14th starting at 7 p.m.. Guests can play a special edition of the regular Wednesday night trivia while they watch sports, eat wings and win prizes. $1 Bud Lights and 75-cent wings will be offered to all customers in attendance.
Never forget that this holiday can be celebrated alone, too. Showing yourself some love should be just as important as showing your date. If you want to stay local, make a dinner reservation at Root Cellar or hit up The Spot for a lively round of bowling. Wherever you end up this Valentine’s Day, just make sure you’re having a good time and staying safe!
