KTSW Statement: Black Lives Matter

 By KTSW Executive Staff

To our dedicated listeners and followers –

Consistent with the values that we uphold here as a community of student employees and volunteers at KTSW, the official radio station of Texas State University, we stand in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement in recognizing the lives of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor and the many others that have died at the hands of police brutality.

Coinciding with the views put out by Texas State University, we believe that Black Lives Matter. It is not debatable at Texas State, nonetheless at KTSW. Justin Howell’s life matters. Black lives matter in our classrooms, on our campuses and in the streets during tumultuous protests. They matter every moment of every day, no exceptions, no debate. We are committed to the struggle for their dignity, humanity, rights, voice and safety.

KTSW would not exist without the contributions of black artists, musicians, athletes, writers and so many others. As a station, we would not be able to perform to our fullest capabilities without the hard work from our black staff and members of the San Marcos community.

We would like to end in acknowledgment of our silence within the past few months regarding the current climate surrounding the black lives matter movement. We are listening, we are learning and we are working to enact change within our community through our organization.

If you are a member of the black community and would like to use our platform to make your voice heard, please reach out to us through our social media pages (@ktsw_899) or email ktswcommunity@txstate.edu.
