Take care of yourself.
These words you may or may not hear enough. When away at college, you may get overwhelmed with your classes, work, extracurricular activities and so much more that you may be dealing with. This could lead to you overlooking your own mental or physical health.
I know this semester seems to be a lot but remember you can do this.
Take a moment and breathe.
I have compiled a list of things to help you take care of yourself to ensure we are all taking care of ourselves.
First, make sure you are practicing normal sleeping habits. This may sound ridiculous because let’s be honest, homework is due close to midnight and what about that exam tomorrow? Way too often do we stay up late for homework or hanging out with friends, that we may forget to take time and get sleep.
The saying is to get eight hours of sleep, but did you know that your body may need more or less sleep depending on your sleep drive? According to Insider, “the average person needs 7.5 hours of sleep,” because each sleep cycle is about 90 minutes, for five different cycles.
So, it is important to determine how much sleep you may need to ensure a full night’s rest.
Secondly, take the time to make yourself a nice and healthy meal. Oftentimes as college kids, we look for quick and easy meals. I know I am guilty of it when it comes to nights where I am doing a lot of homework, but we need to eat better.
On Fit Foodie Finds, they compiled a list of budget-friendly and healthy food ideas to ensure college students to get their nutrition.
Check out their list to stock up on some healthy snacks and meals on your next trip to the grocery store!
Next, try and ensure that you take a shower and take time to calm down with the help of lotions, shower bombs, facial masks or other soothing products to help the stress lift out of your body. I highly recommend Bath & Body Works Winter Candy Apple or Warm Vanilla Sugar scented body lotion to help soothe yourself after a nice shower.
Lastly, take time to do something you enjoy. Whether it be drawing, singing, dancing, driving around town or hanging out with your friends and family. It may seem crazy to remind you to take time to do something you enjoy, but sometimes it is easy to push aside when you have other things to do.
There is always time to be made to take care of yourself. Treat yourself today, tomorrow, and every day because taking care of yourself is an everyday matter. Not just today.
