Over the course of four days, the Texas State Softball team played various games in the ‘TXST Classic in San Marcos, Texas. This softball tournament consisted of various teams such as UTSA, UT Arlington, Kansas, and Colorado State taking place at Bobcat Softball Stadium.

The Bobcats had gone undefeated in the tournament Thursday and Friday where they faced their two rivals, UTSA and UT Arlington, two very tough teams in Texas.

On Saturday, the Bobcats took on the UTA Mavericks. It was a no run game until the end of the fourth inning where they had brought in two runs to get the lead. The Bobcats kept ahold of their lead until the Mavericks brought in a run to tie the game in the seventh inning. The game had gone into extra innings until JJ Smith hit a single to bring in an RBI single to win the game in the eighth inning to stay undefeated.

“The girls played awesome tonight, they never put their head down, and kept pushing as time went on”, said Coach Ricci Woodard.

On the next day, Sunday, the Bobcats took on the Rams of Colorado State. The game started with Pitcher, Tori McCann on the mound. The Rams had started out hot by getting two hits in the first inning and bringing in two runs in the second inning of the game.

Pitcher Tori McCann struggled to pitch in this game. Needing a change in momentum, coach Ricci Woodward brought in Pitcher Jessica Mullins, where she pitched incredibly well this tournament. After the pitching change in the second inning, Jessica Mullins had only let up one run, which had helped her teammates win this game.

The Bobcats had scored five points in the fifth inning to gain the lead in the game. After the great offensive playout by the Bobcats, Pitcher, Jessica Mullins shutout the Rams to win the game.

“I don’t think I brought them back, I more of like changed the momentum of the game to help my team win this game”, said Jessica Mullins

The Bobcats travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana this weekend to play in the Owl Classic. The Bobcats next home game won’t be until March 14th to play two games against the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
