If you’re interested in witchcraft, you’re in luck! Wake the Dead Coffee House, San Marcos’ very own spooky coffee shop, hosts the Abracadavar Witches Market every first Saturday of the month. The market for November may have passed, but December is on its way, bringing the perfect opportunity to buy gifts for the witches in your life.
Wake the Dead Coffee House, located at 1432 Old Ranch Road 12, San Marcos, TX, 78666, is described by many as a “funky, Tim Burton-esque” cafe, serving a variety of drinks and food. From breakfast to lunch and with plenty of sweet treats in-between. Opened by Julia Balkman over a decade ago, Wake the Dead Coffee House has since become a San Marcos staple. Not only does it serve as a great place to get drinks and relax but Wake the Dead has consistently hosted a wide variety of events that support the surrounding community.
Examples of events held at Wake the Dead include the Laughing Dead Comedy Open Mic, live music, and of course, the Abracadavar Witches Market.
The Abracadavar Witches Market features a variety of services and vendors, as well as the food and drinks Wake the Dead already offers. The market is hosted in Wake the Dead’s courtyard from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., where there is plenty of space to walk around, take in the cool weather and indulge in the goods and services of the vendors.
One of the examples of a service provided at the Abracadavar Witches Market is divination. Methods of divination include astrology and tarot card reading to name a few. If you know your birthday and the time you were born, you can likely participate in astrology divination. Astrology is often tied with horoscopes, which use the various astrological signs in your birth chart – determined by the time you were born – to bring guidance for the future.
Tarot card readings can get a bit more complicated. Each tarot card in a deck has two meanings that vary based on whether the card is laid down right side up or upside down, also known as reversed. Through different spreads, tarot readers can use the cards to answer certain questions – such as asking for guidance on one’s love life or work – or give more general advice, such as a vague idea of what the future might hold and what one can do to achieve that future.
For those who are just dipping their toes into the world of witchcraft, the Abracadavar Witches Market has resources for you as well! Magical tools are listed as being sold at the Witches Market, which may include things such as incense, tarot card decks, crystals and more.
The Abracadavar Witches Market is hosted every first Saturday of the month, which means the next one will be on Dec. 2, 2023. The Witches Market runs from 4:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. and is hosted in Wake the Dead’s courtyard.
