Valentine’s groove: Local music shows for every heart

Love is in the air, and whether you’re happily coupled up or flying solo, there’s a local music show to set your heart aflutter this Valentine’s Day season. Here are four Valentine’s themed shows happening this Valentine’s season:  

1. “Love Affair” at 21st Street Co-Op (Austin, Feb. 10):

Get ready to dive headfirst into a musical love affair at 21st Street Co-Op on Feb. 10. “Love Affair” promises a night of eclectic tunes and a vendor market that kicks off at 8:00 p.m. The Co-Op will be alit with music from local bands, including Mockjaw, Fading Yellow, and Fifi Knifefight.

This lineup features everything from jazz and art-pop to punk and cumbia. As the clock strikes midnight, Movimiento Cumbia takes the stage, followed by DJ Lobotomy Chic x Moonbby at 1:00 a.m. Between sets, have fun with the tarot readings, tattoos, zines, and vintage treasures featured in the market. Have some pre-Valentine’s Day fun at “Love Affair”! 

 2. “Glitter Grunge Fest w/ Dossey” at Hole In The Wall (Austin, Feb. 14):

Valentine’s Day doesn’t get much cooler than the “Glitter Grunge Fest w/ Dossey” at Hole In The Wall. Starting at 8:00 p.m., this pop-punk paradise features Dossey as the headliner, accompanied by Night Glitter, The Cuckoos, Flight by Nothing and more. Let the music wash over you as Dossey and the crew deliver a love letter that’ll have you dancing the night away. Hole In The Wall is the perfect Valentine’s Day bash venue and with a ten-dollar cover, it’s a steal for a night of heart-pounding beats. 

3. Valentine’s Day Extravaganza at Bohemeos (Houston, Feb. 14):

If you find yourself celebrating love in Houston this Valentine’s Day, Bohemeos is the place to be. Hosted by Temptats Zines and Pastlife Management, this show kicks off at 7:00 p.m.

Featuring bands like What You Once Were, touring from California, and local Houston gems Pastime and Dream Sequence, the show is bound to be a fun time. Whether you’re a Houston local or just passing through, Bohemeos is your go-to spot for a Valentine’s Day extravaganza. It’s a ten-dollar cover for an evening of pop-punk excellence.  

4. “Third Thursday” at The Porch (San Marcos, Feb. 15):

Join the Valentine’s Day festivities a little later with KTSW’s “Third Thursday” at The Porch, starting at 10:00 p.m. This event offers a laid-back atmosphere perfect for unwinding with friends or a loved one. With a cover fee of $5 for attendees aged 18 and over (and free entry for those 21 and over), it’s an accessible option for a night of live music.

Headlining the evening are the indie pop sounds of The Dumbbells, promising catchy melodies and infectious rhythms. Alongside them, Lluvii brings their unique blend of music to the stage, ensuring an entertaining musical experience for all attendees. Don’t miss out on this chance to groove to some indie pop tunes at The Porch!

5. “Hex Ur Exes” at Alchemy Records (San Marcos, Feb. 17):

Have an ex that was haunting you this Valentine’s Day? After Valentine’s Day, on Feb. 17, get that ex out of your head and rock out at “Hex Ur Exes”! Brace yourself for a night of pop punk, rock, and experimental noise at Alchemy Records as Tupaki, Banged Out, Okay Quest, True Summit, and Dean’s New Band take the stage.

This post-Valentine’s treat promises an unforgettable night filled with heart-pounding beats. If you’re looking to drown out the romantic noise or create some noise of your own, “Hex Ur Exes” is the place to be.

With these four fun Valentine-themed shows, there are quite a few opportunities to explore and enjoy some local music this Valentine’s Day!
