The Bobcats Take the Victory Against UTSA Roadrunners

SAN MARCOS, Texas — With a sold-out rivalry game, the Bobcats hosted the UTSA Roadrunners and earned their second win on the young season with a final score of 49-10. 

It was a roaring atmosphere at UFCU Stadium from Bobcat Nation as well as from the away crowd rooting for the Roadrunners as they traveled northbound on I-35. With the stadium at capacity in attendance for this game, it had both teams fired up as they faced off. 

Given the history between these two teams, the Bobcats mindset going into this game was to snap the losing streak correct flaws from last year’s heartbreaking 20-13 loss. 

The Bobcats worked together offensively to get a rapid start in the first half, and they did so within in the first quarter scoring two rushing touchdowns by starting quarterback Jordan McCloud.  

McCloud had a phenomenal 309 passing yards on the day, scoring four out of the five total touchdowns. Bobcats running back, Lincoln Pare led the team with 109 rushing yards along with two touchdowns that came in the second and fourth quarters. 

Pare missed the entire 2023-2024 campaign with a knee injury. With McCloud excelling as the starting quarterback for Texas State, he acknowledged how Pare is a weapon on the field.  

“Lincoln Pare is a great [running] back,” McCloud said. “He had a good [2022] season. It’s great to have him back. He’s explosive, a really good blocker, and a great leader.” 

Bobcats’ wide receiver Chris Dawn Jr. hauled in five catches for 150 receiving yards, tallying two touchdowns at the end of the evening. The Bobcats ended the evening with a monumental amount of yardage, accumulating 504 yards.  

On the other side of the ball, the Roadrunners totaled 334 yards on the day. The Roadrunners were heavily dependent on their defense as they tried to keep the Bobcats from scoring any more points.  

The Roadrunners struggled to generate any red zone success, scoring their only touchdown of the day in the late third quarter. Roadrunners wide receiver Willie McCoy scored a 2-yard touchdown from the assist of quarterback Eddie Lee Marburger.  

McCloud spoke highly of the team’s performance following the blowout victory.  

“We needed this win,” McCloud said. “We knew, but we had to go and prove it. So now we just got to take that into the game on Thursday.” 

The Bobcats are set to take on the Arizona State Sun Devils on Thursday, Sept. 12th at 6:30 pm at UFCU Stadium. The game will be streaming live on KTSW 89.9 FM and on ESPN.
