This month is not only in the beginning of fall, but it also marks the start of an interesting concept: Cuffing Season. Cuffing season is the time period between fall and winter when scouting a significant other to date is of the utmost importance. To be exact, the main goal is to have someone in your life during the major holidays of Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s and Valentine’s Day. During these time periods, it is considered crucial to narrow your list of potential lovers to one and to find yourself in a relationship before “cuddle weather” decides to set in. While there are a few that may not be affected by this season, there are plenty of us that do want to partake and find someone special for these upcoming holidays. For the latter, here are some tips for staying sane when in the game.

Go In With The Right Mentality

A lot of the time, we find ourselves doubting our own ability to get into a relationship. We may make joking remarks about being single forever, or we may not always attract people that are relationship material. Whether or not we mean what we say, it is important to remember that our mentality causes our reality. Therefore, if you are always thinking negatively about your love life, your situation is not likely to change. Avoid setting yourself up for failure by going into this season with a positive outlook.

Know What You Are Looking For

One of the reasons we tend to crave a relationship is to get away from loneliness and to actually receive attention from someone else. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, it may cause us to misjudge someone who we really want to be with. This is why it is important to know what you want before going after it. Think about the qualities you want from your next partner and who you see yourself with, that way you do not end up wasting your time.

Put Yourself Out There

I get it. One of the scariest moments in the world is putting yourself in a situation you do not feel fully comfortable in. It can be terrifying being around new people, or speaking up to that person you have been secretly eyeing all day. Although rejection may feel like the worst thing in the world, missing out on an experience because you were too afraid is much worse. Stop sitting around wondering when the love of your life is supposed to come to you, you have to actually put yourself out there to be noticed. You can do this by going to more social events or joining new clubs, or if you find yourself on the more introverted side, being more involved with social media and signing up for online dating sites.

Do Not Get Discouraged

If you find yourself single at the end of the season, do not feel discouraged! There are plenty of other seasons left, so make sure to use your single time wisely. Use the time to improve on anything you want to work on and to appreciate yourself for all the wonderful qualities you do possess. Remember, cuffing season is about being with the person that you love, and who’s to say that person cannot be you?
