Ah, grad season. It’s a time of fun and celebration as our friends and family walk the stage and become one step closer to entering the “real world.” As someone who’s been to a few graduation ceremonies, one thing that I’ve found stressful is finding the perfect gift for my loved ones, especially my girlfriends. Within the next year, all of my gal pals will be graduating, and I feel like I need to plan their special gift months in advance. I know, I know. It’s not about the material things, but my girls work hard; they deserve a little treat. Now, this doesn’t necessarily have to be something over the top. After all, it’s the thought that counts. To help ease the stress of grad gift-giving (say that five times fast), I’ve compiled a list of trinkets specifically for all of the boss babes in your life.

For the gal who’s a complete book worm

Shopping for a friend who’s a book worm makes gift-giving that much easier. You could opt for a Barnes & Noble gift card, but why not spice things up a bit? Surprise your girlfriend with a collection of books curated just for her. You can even wrap them in brown wrapping paper with string and add doodles for a cute twist. If you’re feeling daring, why not choose a set of books by random? As they say, you can’t judge a book by its cover. And who knows? Your friend might discover their next favorite book this way, all thanks to you!

Here are some of my book recommendations:

Call Me by Your Name by André Aciman
The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom by Don Miguel Ruiz
The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho
Broken Monsters by Lauren Beukes
I Am Not Your Perfect Mexican Daughter by Erika Sánchez

For the fashionista of the group

Do you have that one girlfriend that just knows how to dress it up? You could be having a lazy movie day and she still shows up looking fresh and chic. Why not give the gift of fashion and accessories? Target sells super cute gift boxes that you can fill with goodies like a candle, nail polish, fuzzy socks, and snacks. You can even opt for a couple of basic tees or a pair of everyday jeans for your fashion lovin’ friend. Lastly, top it off with a pretty bow or a mini-bouquet of flowers, and you’re all set!

For the boy band superfan

Got a friend who’s all about One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer or *NSYNC? You’re in luck because shopping for the superfan of the group is simple. The possibilities are endless: posters, framed photos, magazines, vinyls and artwork are all great options for a loyal fangirl. Feeling extra giving? Snag some tickets to see her favorite band live. That’s one graduation gift she’ll never forget!

For the horror movie fanatic

Horror movies are great, but do you have that one friend that just can’t get enough of them? I’m talking horror movie marathons every time you visit. Maybe she even owns some Freddy Krueger merch. Whatever the case, you are bound to find horror knick-knacks just about anywhere. You can go for a Blu-ray set of horror movie classics or even plan a road trip to some creepy attractions that are sure to be a spooky good time.

For the “mom” of the group

We could all use that “mom” friend in our lives, even if she can be a little overprotective at times (but always has our best interests at heart). For your lovely and loyal friend, I recommend a cute house plant, a spa day, a trip to a winery, whatever makes her feel appreciated. Even a heartfelt letter or a framed photograph is sure to be a tearjerker. Just remember that no matter what you decide, your friendship and support means the most.

For the go-getter who just won’t quit

I think it’s important to have friends you can look up to. A dream journal, polaroid camera, diploma frame or a purse/bag are just a few gift ideas for the friend who stops at nothing to achieve their dreams. Think about what makes your friend unique. What’s their personality like? What are their hobbies? Do they have a side gig like selling their art, photography or freelance writing? Whatever keeps them moving, remember to support their hustle by promoting their work or buying their art. Are they a coffee or tea person? Cute mugs and flavored coffee/teas are other great options for those busy work days.

For the social media queen

For the friend that’s always taking food pics and keeping her followers up-to-date, I recommend anything having to do with social media: a selfie ring light, an iTunes gift card (for all those in-app purchases), a planner or a laptop case. If your friend has a large follower count and is always trying to keep up with her social networks, you can also plan a relaxing weekend getaway (an at-home spa and movie day works just as well!) If your gal pal has trouble staying asleep due to her pesky phone, I suggest gifting earphones, a sleep mask or a relaxation fountain in hopes of providing a better night’s sleep. Influencers need their rest too!
